An ancient art form takes on new significance in this striking wall hanging. Traditionally painted on mud walls, villagers in India adapt the time-honored style of Mandana folk art to create this appliquéd fabric panel. The entire artwork is done by using a single piece of fabric using small hand stitches.
This fair trade product is handmade by artisans in the north western regions of India. Income generated by this product helps develop the artisan communities. In addition, most artisans are women, and this product empowers them with sustainable employment and helps them become socio-economically independent.

The base is made of Organic Cotton, and the artwork is hand appliqued from a single piece that has been block printed with natural dyes. There are two different designs: a red one and a green one.
These are Fair Trade products handmade by an all-women cooperative in India. The artisans have been practicing the art of applique for generations, and have been inspired by local motifs in their villages. They work in collaboration with the artisans that hand block-print the fabrics that are used in products such as our Eco Shoppers or our Melange Bags. Both artisan groups are compensated fairly for their work, and are given development help to help their communities rise above poverty.

These quilts are made using 100% cotton for both the filling and the cover. They are extremely light weight and warm. The art on the cover is made by hand through a wood-block printing technique. Artisans carve the patterns on a wooden block and use it to stamp patterns on the fabric.

These cushion covers are handmade by artisans on small weaving units called pit looms, following the “kashida” art. The entire pattern is woven into the fabric by carefully choosing the various colors in the weft.
Kashida, from the Persian word “to weave”, is a beautiful and unique art practiced by artisans in Rajasthan, India. Fair trade is helping to keep this art alive, and helping it evolve into modern times. We are doing this by creating functional products, and connecting the artisans to an international market.
